Prague, November 4, 2009 – A new Classroom of Faculty of Information Technology CTU (Czech Technical University), in the premises of the National Technical Library, equipped with Sun Ray technology, was inaugurated on November 2, 2009 in attendance of representatives of Sun Microsystems, representatives of the Faculty of Information Technology, CTU and library administration.

Sun Microsystems technology donation worth one million crowns continues to support the newly established Faculty of Information Technology, CTU. The classroom with a capacity of 50 computer workstations will be used for teaching FIT CTU students, in the modern environment of the National Technical Library.

The technical solution for training workstations is based on Sun Ray technology, which is based on work with Sun Ray thin clients, connected to powerful servers. Sun Ray workstations provide a solution with lower maintenance costs, upgrades and operation, than comparable environment with PC clients. Using smart cards with Java Card technology, users are authenticated to a server infrastructure without compromising power failures, virus attacks and maximum portability. A huge advantage of the technology is labor mobility, which means the possibility to pass unfinished work to another console in a moment, without requiring transmission of user data.

In the promotion of ICT and education of market leading IT experts I can see a substantial opportunity for future application of the Czech Republic in the global competition. Our company came out of the university environment, and even our policy has always been based on a close cooperation with talented students and academia. We strive to be able to help even in the currently difficult times to develop the potential of future IT professionals,” said Zdenek Pilz, CEO of Sun Microsystems.

We are pleased that we, in collaboration with our partner, managed to implement the plan of building a truly modern and efficient computer classroom. As a commitment, in exchange for the gift from Sun Microsystems, we are determined to provide top-level education and training of high-quality IT professionals,” said about the project prof. Ing. Pavel Tvrdik, CSc., Dean of FIT CTU.
